A Sonnet of Sonnets, by John Lewis Smith
Sonnet #13: Scholarly Obsessions
I write my books to further my career.
At crack of dawn I put the coffee on
I sit and think. Exploring without fear
The outer reaches of my lexicon.
Each day I type before I go to work
The manuscript is fashioned bit by bit.
I try to keep on top and not to shirk
The boring parts I’d just as soon omit.
I tried to keep a freshness in my voice
I tried to give my readers something new.
For me the textbook format was no choice
I had to move ahead, explore the view.
I have to say I never tasted fame
But nonetheless enjoyed the writing game.
