A Sonnet of Sonnets, by John Lewis Smith
Sonnet #09: University
Psychology undoes my mental knot
At twenty five, decide to quit my job
I go to university to swot
I read philosophy; my temples throb.
The problems start to loom. Without a doubt
The study of behaviour may be flawed.
The critics of the mainstream start to shout
I listen closely, seldom over-awed.
Accounts of action, teleology...
Ill-formed, an idea for research appears.
The concept of the person is the key
My central task defined for thirty years.
At university I honed my mind
But life, in other ways, was not so kind.
